NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I am very very angry at RTD right now. Seems he bought into the whole myth of "if it’s an adult show, then there must be unleavened angst, death, destruction and pain". IMHO, for good writing, that’s only *partially* right. There must be pain, challenges, real danger – BUT…for a show like Torchwood, Doctor Who and others like it – there must ALWAYS be hope at the end.

Hope is what makes a watcher/reader feel as if the journey, no matter how difficult, was worth it. Hope is what makes us, though sad at events, think that we have well, HOPE. Ending a series in utter despair? NOT AMUSING. AT ALL. In fact, it’s a coward’s way out – let’s just kill everyone and have the erstwhile hero run away: NOT a valid ending. (Season 6 Oz, anyone?)

Yes, it is the writer’s choice, and I’m usually the LAST person to 2nd guess writing decisions. I cried and wailed when some of my favorite characters in books were killed off – books written by friends, even. But, in the overall story arc, it made sense. THIS DID NOT MAKE SENSE. What was RTD trying to show us? That Earth, our governments, our leaders are nothing but shite and this planet is shite and that everyone we love dies or becomes a coward?

This ending just left a VERY bad taste in my mouth. Ashes and dust. I think I want to go watch something beautiful and fun…perhaps an episode or two of Merlin.

FUCK.

Torchwood continues to rock

Seriously, this show can’t get any better this series.

Random thoughts:

Adam:
So much beauty in this episode!!
Gwen’s loss of memory.
Tosh’s new personality.
Weenie!Owen!
Gray!!
Ianto’s diary.
The emotional retrieval of the team’s memories.
Jack’s tender touch to Ianto, so much affection. GAH.

Reset:
ETA: The faded photo of “New Mayor, New Cardiff” news clipping on the main office door (the public office where Ianto staffs the “tourist desk”)
The victim’s name is “Meredith” (lovely Welsh pronunciation!)
Martha Jones!!
The flirty Martha/Jack bits with loads of Doctor Who continuity.
Martha asking Gwen if she and Jack ever…and then cracking up along with Gwen.
Hee! So this is where magazine moguls go when they die…(Bradford Meade, anyone?)::g::

My favorite bit (between Martha and Ianto):
Martha: So, am I right that you and he… (re: Jack)
Ianto: We…dabble.
Martha: So what’s his dabbling like.
Ianto: Innovative… Bordering on the avant-garde…
(long pause with dreamy look)…oh yeah.

Holy Crap! Bradford shot Owen! FUCK. He’s dead. And this is the END?

DUDES!!! I have to admit, I’ve not been an Owen fan, especially in series one, but after Meat, I got to actually like him. This was a bit of a shocker. I’ve not been at all spoiled for future episodes, so I’m not sure what RTD has up his sleeve.

I went back to work today, still recuperating from the Office Death Plague. One good thing about being sick: I totally missed the ice nastiness last night. One bad thing (other than feeling like warmed-over death: I totally spaced that yesterday was Tuesday…and primary Tuesday. Damn. :(

ETA: And a happy happy birthday to the wonderful

! Hope it’s been wonderful, sweetie!

Music and writing and yes, Torchwood
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Fascinating thread going on right now at fangs_fur_fey. Melissa Marr (melissa_writing) asked if we’d post 3-6 song titles that give readers a taste/tone of one of our works. I found it to be a fascinating exercise and posted re: my upcoming book, Blood Bargain

Take a look at the various contributions.

In other news: as nestra said, I’m loving me some Ianto Jones v2.0. I now need a good Ianto icon with the slogan: “not just the tea boy”.

Time for this writer to get to bed.

Busy, busy at work, but I had to post these (someone capped them from the trailers). A couple of pics from Series 2.

My contribution to More Joy day. ::g::

ETA: D’oh, I did the picture code wrong so they weren’t showing up. Thanks to

who pointed it out, all better now.
