There are soooo many things to be thankful for this year.

But most of all, I want to thank you. That’s right…you. My family, my friends, my fans, my editors & agents, my fellow authors. Without you, there’d be no Blood Lines series, no writing career. You are all awesome beyond the telling of it! So thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I wish every single one of you a fabulous day, week, month, rest of the year, life!!

Black Friday–or what Maria does on holiday weekends
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Hi, all!

Yup, I suck at posting.

Main reason: OMGWTFBBQDEADLINE

I’m jokingly calling it ProNoWriMo – as in Professional Novelist Writer Month, aka, I am facing a drop-dead deadline (December) and am beyond busy getting the book finished. Will I make it? Absolutely. Do I have time to think of anything else? Not so much.

I don’t celebrate holidays like most folks. Thanksgiving weekend, instead of facing the madding crowds (and insane TSA regs), I’m Skyping my holiday visit with the familia, cooking up something fun (probably a lovely bit of salmon) and spending most of my time writing.

On Black Friday (through CyberMonday), I’ll be doing much of the same, sans Skype visit and salmon.

Does it bother me that I’m not with family/friends? Actually, no, not really. I LOVE being alone and enjoy the heck out of my time off by myself. I sleep in (or get up early); I nosh all day on bits & bobs (or cook a fabulous meal); I nap (or exercise) — whatever takes my fancy. For me, this is the high life!

I’ll be doing much of the same over Xmas & New Years, only by then, Blood Sacrifice will have been turned in and I plan to READ. A lot! Today, I bought Lois McMaster Bujold’s latest Miles Vorkosigan release, Cryoburn (50% at my local B&N) and the new Jim Butcher, Side Jobs. I love adding to my TBR, knowing that eventually, I’ll have these treasures to brighten my day.

So, tonight, it’s back to the keyboard (after Glee, of course!) and more of the same for the next 45 days or so.

Hope you all are enjoying reading Blood Heat and wishing my US fans a Happy Thanksgiving weekend.

TBR – the pile continues to grow
Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I keep meaning to not buy books. Really. I already have so many books on the TBR* pile, it’s taking over the shelves/e-reader TOC. I won’t have time to read anything until Xmas. Does that stop me?

NOPE!

Next on my TBR is Clay & Susan Griffith’s debut novel, The Greyfriar, first part of the Vampire Empire trilogy. I can’t WAIT to read it. There are vampires, Victorians and all sorts of fun stuff.

From the publisher:
In the year 1870, a horrible plague of vampires swept over the northern regions of the world. Millions of humans were killed outright. Millions more died of disease and famine due to the havoc that followed. Within two years, once great cities were shrouded by the grey empire of the vampire clans. Human refugees fled south to the tropics because vampires could not tolerate the constant heat there. They brought technology and a feverish drive to reestablish their shattered societies of steam and iron amid the mosques of Alexandria, the torrid quietude of Panama, or the green temples of Malaya.

It is now 2020 and a bloody reckoning is coming.

Princess Adele is heir to the Empire of Equatoria, a remnant of the old tropical British Empire. She is quick with her wit as well as with a sword or gun. She is eager for an adventure before she settles into a life of duty and political marriage to man she does not know. But her quest turns black when she becomes the target of a merciless vampire clan. Her only protector is The Greyfriar, a mysterious hero who fights the vampires from deep within their territory. Their dangerous relationship plays out against an approaching war to the death between humankind and the vampire clans.

The Greyfriar: Vampire Empire is the first book in a trilogy of high adventure and alternate history. Combining rousing pulp action with steampunk style, The Greyfriar brings epic political themes to life within a story of heartbreaking romance, sacrifice, and heroism.

Intrigued? I am! Stop by All Things Urban Fantasy where Clay & Susan guest blog and talk about open vs. closed societies. There’s even a book giveaway!
