R.I.P. Dan Alder Margulies
Saturday, March 8th, 2008

I just got a very sad email. My friend’s husband, Dan, died yesterday evening from complications related to aggressive leukemia and lymphoma. He was 40 years old.

I had the good luck to meet Dan and exchange geek jokes with him. We shared a passion for Doctor Who and science fiction. He was a lovely man and will be sorely missed.

My love and thoughts to Beth and the twins.

Americans are no more irony illiterate than Britons or anyone else
Saturday, March 8th, 2008

I adore Stephen Fry.

From his recent post:

Americans are no more irony illiterate than Britons or anyone else

We see a lot of New York City and Los Angeles on British television, and we see a good deal of sneering at religious cults, eccentric sex therapists and semiliterate politicians, but for those of us who have spent any time in the country, these are no more indicators of life in America, or conclusive characteristics of Americans than films about braying dukes and vomiting ladettes are clinching definers of all things British.

Yes, with a side of A-men!

Read the rest of the post wherein he talks about his travel and his take on music.

off to write…

Damn it, I thought I’d cut this

Heads Up, Dresden Files Fen
Friday, March 7th, 2008

According to People That Know, a.k.a., via the Jim Butcher Announce list, Sci-Fic is airing the FULL 2-hour Storm Front pilot tonight.

Well, not exactly tonight, but more like the WEE HOURS of the a.m.

Here’s the info straight from the list:

Tonight, the Sci-Fi Channel is finally broadcasting the unaired Dresden Files TV pilot in the US! This two-hour cut of “Storm Front” features exciting new scenes that were cut from the one-hour version that aired last year. Unfortunately, it’s slated for 3AM EST. I think
this is why they invented TiVo.

Find out what time the episode airs in your time zone:

Endorphins: Nature’s High
Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

So at some point a few weeks ago, I got the bright idea to join a water aerobics class (something I used to do regularly when I lived in San Antonio). I conned, er, convinced my co-worker J to come with. Tonight was our first night.

We”d signed up at the local Y, which offers a punch card – 16 classes, any combo. The intention was to do the intro water aerobics to start with: shallow end, etc. Then to see if we liked it or whatever.  A new session was scheduled to begin tonight. Notice the operative word: was…

We got there and found out that the instructor was still out. So we did the deep water aerobics. 1 hour plus. It felt great! That said, every single muscle in my body aches and I’m sooooo tired. I will definitely sleep well tonight.

I think that J and I will probably check out the less advanced class for now, and work our way up to deep water.

On another note, Jaye Wells has declared March as “Adopt A Vampire Novel” month and it’s going strong. There are giveaways and will there will be guest bloggers, including yours truly on March 14.  Be sure to stop by!

I heard that Gary Gygax died today. Sad news for all fannish folks that started as gamers. I remember learning D&D in college (it was fairly new and yes, I’m that old) and having the *best* time making stuff up. Somewhere along there I think I realized that I was totally a whore for fiction. Maybe that’s where the writing thing gelled. Who knows. In any case, because of him and others likehim, I got to play with other fen.

Off to have a bite and then watch an episode of SG-1 (I’m up to season 6!) before sacking out.
