Due South…westish
Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I’m Warrenton, Virginia bound for a book signing at Borders...my first solo chain store signing.

I’m meeting the adorable

for lunch at 1:00, then the signing is at 3:00 p.m.

I imagine I’ll make it home in time to grab the Series 3 finale of Doctor Who. EEEeee!!

Comfort food for the win

So, end of fiscal year and work and all be of the crazy as we attempt to close out projects and complete work so it can be billed in the right fiscal year.

What this means for me is long days (late nights for the past couple of weeks) and a marathon 12 hour day today.

But…

We did it. We achieved the year end goal and even surpassed it.

What this means to me: BONUS!!!

I don’t know how much yet, but it will be on this next paycheck.

This is a VERY good thing, even though I’m just beat.

I got home and made Lean Cuisine mac & cheese because it’s easy.

Also of the good: my cleaners came today so I have a clean home and clean laundry. Of ALL the things I spend money on, this is my favorite indulgence. It’s good to not stress about housework and laundry. I am not now, nor have I ever been domestically inclined.

I so need a wife. ::g::

Because I SUCK at birthday reminders – happy belated to the_star_fish and happy day to the_shoshanna. I *know* I’ve missed some folks these past couple of weeks. Just know I really was thinking of you!

He’s out of surgery
Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

My step-dad is out of surgery (as of about 4:30 my time) and is in recovery. My mom hasn’t seen him, but the doctor says that he is doing well and that they didn’t see any cancer left.

He will be in intensive care tonight (standard post-op for a long operation). Mom plans to hang out until she can see him and be with him for a while and then will go home to sleep.

I imagine we’ll hear more later.

Work is insane and I’ve been stressed all day, but am so very very glad for this news.

Wishing all the dads a great day

A happy happy father’s day to all the dads – be they biological, step, emotional, etc.

Just got off the phone with my own step-dad – a man whose sense of humor and sheer joy in living always makes me smile.

He’s scheduled for surgery in 2 days – the tumor is now gone (shrunk by the radiation/chemo therapy), but the docs all want him to have the surgery because this type of cancer has a nasty habit of returning with a vengeance. Although this means he’ll have a colostomy bag the rest of his life, he’s not letting this get him down. He’s the kind of guy that lives the adage: whatever doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.

So Happy Father’s Day to one of the coolest guys I know, my stepdad.

How can one show be made of so much awesome?

Just finished watching Utopia.

Still reeling from the OMGOMGOMG.

Is it next Saturday yet?

Woefully behind…
Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Let me just say that going back to work after a week and a half off makes time fly: and not necessarily in a good way. Last week is still much of a blur. I dropped out of warp speed sometime this afternoon, but am still slammed with a bunch of projects.

The cleaners are coming tomorrow and stuff is still piled up on the floor.

However, I totally blame Dean James for that (well, sort of…at least for part of it). At Mayhem, we got to talking about Madeline Brent and well, one thing led to another, and the next thing I know I’m browsing half.com.

I not only scored a bunch of Madeline Brent books, but also Anne Maxwell’s Dancer series and a bunch of oop books by Mark Richard Zubro, whom I met briefly at Mayhem. Mark writes about a couple of gay detectives and I’m really looking forward to reading him. Sadly, many of his books were out of print, and since I’m a completist, I had to start at the beginning. ::g::

Which means – I have this PILE o’books that must find a temporary home so that the cleaners can vacuum.

Eep!

Blood Bargain is now 7500 words closer to being a real book. Hard to tell the actual total word count as I have several random scenes that may or may not make it into the final draft (perhaps about 10,000 more words).

Am behind on reading LJ, but hope to catch up.

If I commented and you commented back, and want a response – I may not have seen your message. I changed my email host and for a few days, I was not getting LJ messages. That’s been corrected. I promise, I’m not ignoring you, it might just take me a while to go back through and see if I owe anyone anything.

Okay, toddling off now because tomorrow is all-day client meeting day.

Oh, quick drive by book rec: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. Thoroughly enjoyable!
