Saw these on Engadget today.
Yes, I am amused.
Linky link…goes to the Engadget article with the embedded YouTube vids.
Just got my package from Mysterious Galaxy with my inscribed copies of You Suck: A Love Story, by Christopher Moore (a sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story, which was my intro to him); and No Dominion, by Charlie Huston. No Dominion is the third in a brilliantly written noirish vampire PI series. I got to meet Charlie at BEA last year, even got an ARC of No Dominion, but it vanished from our booth at some point.
I would have ordered the book anyway, but I’m sorry to have lost the lovely inscription. This new copy is also inscribed, because Charlie signed at MG recently.
Also on the horizon: No Regrets by Shannon K. Butcher. Yes, the spouse of Jim Butcher. It’s her first book, a romantic suspense and I hear it’s most excellent. It’s officially out next week, so make sure you pick up a copy. (paperback original, $6.99)
Over the weekend, I read Old Man’s War by John Scalzi (feed: scalzi). If you like science fiction, with a Heinlenesque flavor, this one’s for you. Just out in paperback, it’s garnered tons of awards/nominations for its debut last year in hardcover. Ghost Brigades, a 2nd book in this universe is due out from Tor in paperback soon. (yeah, I’m buying a lot more in paperback these days, mostly because of space issues…as in I have none).
I spent the weekend relaxing, with a heating pad on the tendinitis-affected left shoulder…oh yeah, I forgot, the verdict is tendinitis. IMHO, this means: wow, your shoulder is swollen and we have no idea why! Treatment is 500 mg of Naproxen (e.g. Aleve) 2x a day, and heat. The heat helped a LOT, plus, not using it probably was helpful. Hard thing to do at work, though. ::g::
I did *not* watch any of the Sunday shows, so tonight, after I get home and d/l from iTunes, I will immerse myself in Dresden and BSG goodness. Then Rome, via On-Demand. I totally LOVE being able to do this.
Heard yesterday afternoon that Barbara Seranella, author of the Munch Mancini mystery series died after a long battle with liver disease.
Barbara was an amazing woman, fabulous writer and fellow Buffy fan. I got to know her, albeit briefly, via a discussion group I run. We only met in person once, again, quite briefly, at a mystery con in California a couple of years ago. She always had a fabulous attitude, a strong will and was someone I greatly admired. She will be sorely missed.
Just watched the pilot of Dresden Files – not giving away anything, just amused at casting.
(1) Raoul Bhaneja who plays Det. Kirmani was Khaled in Touch of Pink
(2) The uncredited actor who is Uncle Justin…I’m POSITIVE it’s Daniel Kash – a.k.a. Gardino on Due South. I can’t prove or disprove, because there’s no listing on IMDB under Dresden Files nor under Daniel Kash, but I’d bet a large drink on it. I squeed!
Overall impression – enjoyed it, a bit dark (lighting-wise) so I had trouble seeing and for some reason, my connection has bad sound, so it was really really low. There was a notice that it would be available on iTunes tomorrow, so I’ll probably wait to react until I can buy a high-def copy and re-watch.
Not watching BSG right now, b/c I’m recording Brothers & Sisters. I will catch BSG on the iTunes d/l.
Going to take another pain pill and head off to bed.
Huh, it’s snowing.
Sadly, like smittywing, I discovered it was snowing via LJ…specifically via smittywing’s post and darthrami‘s post. Hey, I was napping!
I got up way early today, mostly because my shoulder has really been bothering me, and decided to watch my 2 Netflix movies: Quinceanera and The Illusionist.
Adored the former; enjoyed the latter but totally clued in to the “twist” pretty early on.
Spent a little time reading email and then decided to nap after taking a pain pill.
Tonight marks the debut of The Dresden Files, based on Jim Butcher’s fabulous series. I’m looking forward to the show. I’ve loved that series since I discovered it back just about the time that the 3rd book was debuting. I met Jim at Shore Leave that year and interviewed him for a now defunct book review site.
Really really unhappy with CW right now. Normally, with iTunes, the shows are available the next day, after air date. Supernatural seems to be the exception. Episode 9, Croatoan, has yet to be added. Episode 10 was only added on Wednesday, nearly a week late. Episode 11 hasn’t been loaded yet, either. I sent email to iTunes, and evidently, it’s CW’s fault. They are the ones that make the files available and the schedule is up to them. Makes me a very unhappy camper. iTunes folks did reassure me that they are investigating.
I do have the recording from EyeTV, but the quality just isn’t the best, plus, hey, commercials. Besides, I bought the iTunes season pass for the show, so damn it, I already *paid* for those eps! Grrr.

In any case – tonight promises to be a quiet night, most especially since I’m still groggy from the pain meds and will probably just crash early and watch my shows tomorrow after work.

In conclusion: TGIF!
I was watching the deleted scenes from Doctor Who Series 2 just now (the DVD set arrived yesterday).
There’s a deleted scene between Mickey and Jake, in the van.
And by that I mean the cold virus, not the weather. Although the temps have dropped drastically since earlier in the week. Today’s high is slated to be 30, when Monday it was near 70.
I woke up and showered, trying to ignore the signs of illness, but alas, I can’t. I can barely breathe and my chest is congested, plus sinus headache.
I’m crawling back to bed. No work for me today. This is the part of winter that I HATE.
Wherein I am somewhat incoherent about recent episodes of SGA and Rome!
