wow, I so never want to do that again
Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Thanks for all the good wishes. You all are the BEST!!

It was really not a pleasant experience. And by that I mean: OMGWTFOUCH!!!

Dr. A is a lovely lovely man and really didn’t want to have to do the test, but after drawing blood again, my blood count was still wonky.

How to do a bone marrow biopsy:
You lay on your belly, still clothed, but undo your pants so they (doc and nurse) can slide down.
The doc pokes at you to find the best place to access your hipbone.
You then make a joke about how the *last* time you were like this was for a massage.
They numb your asscheek with Lidocaine and basically try to find your hipbone with a really long needle that you do NOT under ANY circumnstance try to turn your head to look at.
Doc then pokes needle (thank the PTB for Lidocaine!!) SEVERAL times to find the bone.
You really don’t feel anything, just the pressure of him leaning on your ass.
Then, OMFWTF THERE IS SCRAPING! and a really weird (not sharp) pressure/pain shoots down your leg, more than once.
(Honestly, feeling/hearing the scraping throughout my body was at the same time bizarre/interesting and really really uncomfortable).
Doc then pronounces that he found the bone/marrow and hopes he got enough.
You hold your breath, praying to whomever may be listening that it’s enough.
Nurse/tech pronounces it’s plenty.
Doc pats you on the back and says “you’re done”.
You let out the held breath and are VERY glad it’s over.

There was no bleeding, and so far, nothing major, just a deep discomfort. Advil is my friend. I’m so very very glad the test is over. Results will take a couple of weeks. I have a follow up appointment on the 20th.

In conclusion:
Blessed Samhain Eve and Happy Halloween to all!

Thank God for the lidocaine. Good heavens. ::shudder::

I’m glad this is over; I hope the result is a good one, whatever that means?

    Thinking of you, anyway.

    Glad it went okay!

MrGiraffe and I used to donate bone marrow for money to the hematology research labs. 200 bucks for about 30 minutes of time. *g* Once you do it a couple of times, you get used to what the pain feels like and it doesn’t bother you that much anymore.

Meep! *HUGS* I’m just glad you’re okay but crikey. Long needles are to be avoided at all costs. Samhain blessings to you, pet.

Oh, heavens. I’m so glad it’s in the past. You’re in my thoughts until the results come in.
