w00t!!
Friday, October 28th, 2005

Major congrats to Charlaine Harris. Seems Alan Ball is helming her Southern Vampire series for HBO.

Article here.

It seems like only yesterday that Charlaine was grousing to a group of us about not being able to sell the first book in the series, even with two other mystery series under her belt. Seems no one “got” the idea of a likable, if offbeat heroine, and not-necessarily ultraevil vampires. Is it horror? Is it fantasy? How can it be a mystery novel? We have no idea how to market it.

Now, some 8 years or so later, the world will be watching the antics of Sookie Stackhouse, Bill the vampire and Erik (OMG, ERIK!! Wonder who’s going to be cast as my favorite character?). I hope Charlaine is laughing all the way to the bank.

In any case – a big w00t!!!!!! and major congrats and hugs to one of my bestest buds!

If you haven’t read the Sookie books, what the heck are you waiting for?

      Thanks for the 2nd link! I’m so looking forward to this! (of course, even if they start shooting in early ’06, won’t be on until much later in the year)…gah – the waiting begins.

      Wow, wouldn’t that be a hoot!?

      Alas, I must first find a decent agent. The search begins anew.

    If Ball’s doing it, I’m there. I was so disappointed when Dead Like Me wasn’t renewed, dammit.

    I just finished her second-to-last one today!

    Erik… very tall, very blond, very confident. Hmmm.

      Cool beans – glad you’re reading her books!

      Re: Erik – sigh – I will probably be disappointed, b/c I can’t think of anyone who can fill the fangs of my fav vampire. Ah well…no matter, it’s not like any of us have a say. :)

      Happy dances all ’round, cuz. This is so very very cool for Charlaine and for us fans. I have such a soft spot in my heart for this series and am psyched that it’s gone so far.

      ::Dances with you::

    That is good news. When I found the books, I really just gobbled them down. I had some issues about the Sookie-bashing, but the books are riveting.

    I was thinking about the Eric casting too. A tall Nordic hunky vampire – can’t come up with anyone but will have much fun thinking about it. I used to have a boyfriend (named Bill) who would have been perfect for Bill the Vampire. I had him in mind when I was reading the stories.
